Several new technologies in colorectal surgery have been acquired, allowing firsthand experience with the use of this equipment. This includes laparoscopic and hand assisted colorectal surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), complex endoscopy, 3D anal manometry and 3D ultrasonography. Both nonoperative and outpatient management are emphasized throughout the fellowship training during the clinical rotations conducted by Colon and Rectal Associates.
It is our goal to have contributed significantly to LSUHS fellows' specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management (preoperative, operative, post-operative, and medical management) of disease and their complications pertaining to the colon, rectum, anus, and small bowel.
Through our community based private practice, LSUHS fellows will gain a broad spectrum of specialized knowledge and techniques in the field of colon and rectal surgery. Our practice also has a major referral area allowing us to see all common disorders of the colon, rectum and anus, as well as more advanced, complex disorders unique to our specialty. As the only colon and rectal surgery group in North Louisiana, we see referrals from the northern half of Louisiana, East Texas, and Southern Arkansas. This exposes LSUHS fellows to the full range of colorectal disorders, preparing them well to enter independent practice at the end of their training.

The weekly schedule with Colon and Rectal Associates allows protected time for endoscopy and clinic with at least two full days of surgery per week. LSUHS fellows also practice at the Oschner LSU Health Shreveport Colon and Rectal Clinic one half day per week, which allows them to serve in a teaching role with medical students and junior residents.
